Choose the right payroll system.
Implement it correctly.

Choosing a payroll platform is only the beginning. Employment agreements, working patterns, payroll data, legislative interpretation and configuration decisions all shape the final result.

Premium Payroll Solutions provides independent payroll expertise from system selection through testing, parallel payroll, go-live and post-implementation assurance.

End-to-end

From selection to post-go-live assurance
Our software selection & implementation services

Two paths to a better payroll transformation.

Whether you are still choosing a payroll platform or already implementing one,
PPS brings an independent payroll and compliance lens to the decisions that matter.
Every engagement is evidence-based, platform-agnostic and led by experienced payroll specialists.

Our services include:

We translate workforce arrangements, payroll complexity, compliance obligations, data needs and operational requirements into clear system requirements, then help you assess vendors against real payroll scenarios rather than generic feature lists.

Financial Image

We work alongside your implementation partner from design and migration through testing, parallel payroll, go-live and post-go-live assurance - independently validating whether the new system pays people correctly.

Business Image
1. Payroll Software Selection

Start with your workforce, not the software demo.

Almost every payroll platform can look capable in a sales presentation.

The real question is whether it can support the way your organisation actually employs and pays people.

PPS helps define what your future payroll system must do before a vendor is selected, giving you a stronger basis for evaluation and a cleaner foundation for implementation.

Payroll Requirements & Discovery

We examine employment types, hours, rosters, allowances, deductions, overtime, leave, employment agreements, reporting, integrations and manual workarounds.

Compliance Requirements

We identify the legislative and contractual requirements that need to be reflected in system design and configuration, rather than treated as an afterthought.

Vendor Evaluation

We support requirements documentation, RFP development, shortlisting, vendor briefing, scenario-based demonstrations, evaluation and implementation risk assessment.

Scenario-Based Assessment and Operational Fit

Instead of asking only whether a feature exists, we help test whether the proposed system can process the payroll scenarios your organisation actually encounters.

We consider how payroll interacts with HR, time capture, finance, reporting, employee data and downstream processes so the selected solution fits the wider operating environment.

Independent Advice

We evaluate whether your current payroll platform/system is configured correctly, fit for your organisation's complexity, and capable of maintaining compliance as your workforce and obligations evolve.
2. Payroll System Implementation Assurance

A successful implementation needs more than configuration.

Payroll software processes the rules it has been given. If employment terms, data, legislative interpretation or configuration logic are wrong, the system can produce the wrong result and at scale.

PPS provides an independent layer of payroll assurance throughout implementation, challenging assumptions and validating outcomes before errors become embedded in business-as-usual payroll.

Payroll Design & Configuration Review

We review how pay rules, working patterns, leave, allowances, deductions, additional hours, terminations and employment agreement requirements are translated into the system.

Data Readiness & Migration

We support data mapping, data validation, migration reconciliation, opening balance checks, leave balance validation and identification of historical inconsistencies.

Payroll Testing, Parallel & Variance Analysis

We build and review real-world payroll test scenarios, including calculation testing, leave testing, final pays, edge cases, integrations and UAT support.

We investigate why legacy and new systems produce different results, distinguishing genuine improvement from configuration errors, migration issues or inherited legacy problems.

Go-Live Readiness

We independently assess critical calculations, parallel results, data reconciliation, defects, compliance risks, operational readiness and known workarounds before Go / No-Go.

Post-Go-Live Assurance

We review early payroll cycles, investigate unexpected variances and identify configuration, data or process issues before they become established operational problems.
What makes PPS different

Your implementation partner knows the system.
We know HR & Payroll.

We do not replace your software vendor or implementation partner.
We provide an independent payroll, data and compliance perspective that sits alongside them, particularly where responsibility crosses HR, Payroll, Finance, Technology and the project team.
Legislations Specialist

Our experience is grounded in real New Zealand payroll environments and complex remediation work, giving us practical insight into how legislation, employment terms and system configuration interact.

Platform-Agnostic Assessment

We are not tied to one software vendor. Our focus is whether the platform and implementation are right for your organisation.

100% NZ-Based Operations

We are entirely owned and operated within New Zealand. All tasks are executed by local experts who possess direct and up-to-date knowledge of New Zealand-specific legislation, ensuring compliance without reliance on offshore teams using generic checklists.

Independent Assurance

The same party configuring a system should not be the only party confirming that configuration is correct. PPS provides an objective payroll assurance layer.

Data Capability

Our data expertise supports migration validation, reconciliation, variance analysis and the investigation of issues that standard implementation reports can overlook.

End-to-End Support

From requirements and software selection through testing, parallel payroll, go-live and post-implementation review, PPS can support the whole journey or only the stages where you need us.

Why it matters

A technically successful implementation can still create payroll risk.

Payroll transformation is one of the easiest moments to introduce new errors, inherit old ones, or embed assumptions that are difficult and expensive to unwind later.

System Misconfiguration

Payroll software will reliably process the rules it has been given. If the underlying logic is wrong, incorrect outcomes can be repeated across every affected employee and pay cycle.

Testing Can Miss Real Payroll Scenarios

Generic scripts may prove that functionality works but fail to test complex employment arrangements, edge cases and the calculations most likely to create compliance exposure.

Legacy Errors Follow You

A new platform does not automatically fix historical data, leave balances, configuration problems or incorrect interpretations. Migration can simply move the problem.

Matching the Old System Is Not Proof

If your legacy payroll is already wrong, reproducing the same result in the new platform only embeds the existing error in a newer system.

When is the right time?

You can bring PPS in at any stage.

Earlier involvement gives you more opportunity to prevent problems, but implementation assurance can still add value when a project is already underway.

You do not need to restart your payroll transformation to bring in independent assurance. PPS can focus on the exact stage where additional payroll confidence is needed.

You are considering a new payroll system

We can help define the payroll and compliance requirements that should shape vendor selection before commercial decisions are locked in.

You are preparing an RFP or vendor shortlist

We help turn payroll complexity into meaningful evaluation criteria and real-world scenarios that separate a strong demo from a genuinely suitable solution.

Your implementation is already underway

We can independently review design decisions, configuration assumptions, data migration and test coverage without taking over the project.

You are about to start parallel payroll

We can help define what should be compared, investigate variances and distinguish legitimate differences from issues that need correction before go-live.

You are approaching go-live

An independent readiness review provides management with a clearer view of unresolved payroll risk before the final Go / No-Go decision.

You have recently gone live

Post-go-live assurance can identify unexpected payroll results, data issues and configuration problems before they become embedded in normal operations.

FAQ

What organisations ask
before engaging PPS.

Does PPS implement payroll software?

PPS can provide specialist payroll support throughout implementation, but our key value is independent payroll assurance. We can work alongside your software vendor or implementation partner to review requirements, configuration, data, testing, parallel payroll and go-live readiness.

Why involve PPS if our software vendor already has implementation consultants?

Your vendor brings deep knowledge of its technology. PPS brings an independent payroll, New Zealand compliance and remediation perspective. Those roles are complementary. We focus on whether the payroll outcome is correct, not only whether the software has been configured and functions as designed.

Can PPS help us choose between payroll systems?

Yes. We can help define payroll requirements, develop evaluation criteria, support RFPs and vendor demonstrations, and assess how well proposed platforms fit your workforce, payroll complexity, integrations and compliance obligations.

We are already halfway through implementation. Is it too late?

No. PPS can join at any stage. A targeted design review, migration check, testing review, parallel payroll assessment or go-live assurance exercise can still identify issues before they become embedded in production payroll.

Why isn't parallel payroll alone enough?

Parallel payroll can identify differences, but matching the legacy system is not necessarily evidence that the new system is correct. If the old system contains an existing error, reproducing the same outcome simply carries that error forward. PPS focuses on understanding why the result is correct.

Can PPS help after go-live?

Absolutely yes.
We can review early production payrolls, investigate unexpected variances, validate calculations and help identify configuration, data or process issues before they become established business-as-usual problems.
